Alitude offers the driving test at our main office location At 7562 S. University Blvd, Centennial. The test is $85 if we do it in your vehicle, and $95 if we do it in one of our vehicles. We can take a card, or cash (exact amount) at the time of your appointment.

NOTE: The DMV does not offer the driving test.

Please read and understand the following before scheduling a driving test:

When can I schedule the test?
We understand that a lot of people plan to take their test and get their license on a specific day, such as their 16th birthday. If you plan far enough ahead, this can usually be accommodated. Please feel free to schedule far in advance if you have a specific date in mind.

We also recommend scheduling a DMV appointment far in advance, as they do not take walk-ins. It is best to schedule the test, before scheduling a DMV appointment, so you are sure to have enough time to get from one place to the other. The DMV typically allows appointment scheduling as much as 3 months out.

When can I take the test?
If you are under 18 years of age, you can take the test once you have had your permit for a full year. For example, if your permit was issued on March 16th, you can test as early as March 16th the following year. If you are 18, you can take the test whenever you are ready.

If you are under 16 1/2 you must have completed your 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with an instructor before taking the driving test. If you missed this step and need to sign up and complete the behind-the-wheel requirement ASAP, let us know and we will see what we can do.

Do I take the test in my vehicle?
You can take the test in your vehicle, or ours. If you take it in one of Altitude’s vehicles, the testing cost is $95. If you take the test in your own vehicle, the cost is $85. Your vehicle must meet all safety and equipment requirements laid out by the State of Colorado in order to be used for the test, and must have license plates attached to the front and rear of the vehicle. A Colorado temporary tag on the rear is the exception to this rule.

If we will be using your vehicle, please make sure the interior is clean and tidy.

How long is the test?
The test takes around 20 minutes, depending on traffic. During the test, the tester will only speak when giving instructions, and there will be no “small-talk.” This is simply to enable the student to focus on driving without any distractions. Any questions the student has about the test should be asked before it begins.

What is covered in the test?
The driving test evaluates more than 100 items covering skills that you should be doing correctly to be a safe driver. All of the basic driving maneuvers you were (or should have been) trained on over the year will be graded during the test. Lane changes, traffic lights, stop signs, left and right turns, roundabouts, signal and mirror use, right of way, speed management, and overall general driving safety are all part of the test.

What do I need to bring to my testing appointment?
Permit – You must have your valid permit with you in order to test. This can be the physical card, or access to the permit on the MyColorado app.

Payment – We accept cards, or cash (in the exact amount) for payment. This must be paid before we conduct the test.

Vehicle Documents – If we are testing you in your own vehicle, you need to bring current vehicle registration, and valid proof of insurance. Without these documents, we will not be testing in your vehicle. Make sure your vehicle has sufficient fuel or charge for the test.

Please arrive at your appointment 5 minutes early, with all necessary documents in hand, so we can get the test started on time. Make sure you are well rested, and able to focus.

What happens if I don’t pass the test?
If you don’t pass the test the first time, you can retake it as early as the following day. Colorado law only allows you to take one test per day. If you need to retest with Altitude, the retest fee is $70.

Whether you pass or not, the tester will provide detailed feedback on areas and skills you should work to improve on, after the test.
